Welcome to our new Chair, Darcél Elliott

The Santa Barbara County Democratic Party (SBCDP) is pleased to announce the election of Darcél Elliott to Chair the local Democratic party and to announce we will be interviewing candidates for Santa Barbara Mayor and City Council in April.

The Santa Barbara County Democratic Party has elected Darcél Elliott to Chair the local county party.

“I am honored to have been elected to serve as Chair of the Democratic Party. I am excited to build on our successes and expand our reach to bring new voters into our Democratic family,” said Darcél Elliott.

Darcél was born and raised in Santa Maria, and has lived in Santa Barbara County her entire life. She has worked as a legislative aide and campaign manager for Democratic candidates and elected officials for the past 12 years.

“Over the last 10 years, I’ve worked extensively on a variety of policy issues and areas, including education, environment, and labor throughout the county. I am excited to bring that experience to the Party, where I hope to deepen our work on policy to ensure endorsed candidates are able to enact progressive change,” said Elliott.

Additionally, Darcél is a community organizer who facilitated the effort to create self government in Isla Vista, and has worked with activists to channel energy into local progressive change.

Elliott said, “There is tremendous energy in our community right now from grassroots activists and volunteers who want to build a better world for women, people of color, working folks, and the LGBTQ+ community. As Chair, I want to continue to support and empower these movements.”

The SBCDP reminds local Democrats that there is a November 2021 election for Mayor of the City of Santa Barbara, and Council seats for Districts 4, 5 and 6. The Democratic Party will be interviewing candidates seeking endorsement at the regularly scheduled Committee meeting on April 1.

All those who seek to apply for endorsement should contact Endorsement Chair, Joe Pierre at . He will walk candidates through the process.
