Santa Barbara County Democratic Party Chair Darcél Elliott announced the endorsement of Dr. Susan Salcido’s re-election campaign for Superintendent of Schools.
Dr. Salcido has served as Superintendent of Schools since 2017. During her tenure, she has worked to expand childcare and preschool access and affordability, and increased mental health counselors in K-12 schools.
Dr. Salcido grew up in Santa Maria where she attended public schools, before studying education at UC Santa Barbara. She has served our community as a teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent.
The Santa Barbara County Education Office (SBCEO) provides administrative and fiscal support to all 20 school districts throughout Santa Barbara County. Additionally, SBCEO works directly with some of our County’s most vulnerable student populations.
“Right-wing extremists are trying to take over Santa Barbara County Schools and take us backwards. Democrats can’t let that happen. We need to re-elect a champion of equitable, accessible, and quality public education. That person is Dr. Susan Salcido” said Democratic Party Chair Darcél Elliott.
In March, the Democratic Party announced endorsements for Salud Carbajal for Congress, Gregg Hart for State Assembly, and Laura Capps for 2nd District Supervisor. A complete list of endorsements can be found at sbdems.org/endorsements.
The Primary election will take place on June 7, 2022. All voters will be mailed a vote-by-mail ballot by the week of May 9.
The Santa Barbara County Democratic Party endorses candidates running for County, City, and local office based on their alignment with Democratic values, expressed in the Democratic Party Platform, including social, economic, and environmental justice.
