Endorsement Process

On March 7, 2019 we will interview people who are interested in our endorsement for the Board of Supervisors, Third District.

The Santa Barbara City Council has a vacancy for District 6 because Gregg Hart has resigned to serve on the Board of Supervisors. The council will appoint a new interim member in February and there will be a special election in November 2019 to fill his remaining term which runs until January 2022. Applications for the appointment will be accepted from January 9-28. Interviews will be held by the Council February 5. Appointment and possible swearing February 12. We will be considering endorsements for the following seats in the coming months: CDP Chair, BOS District 3 and 1, Santa Barbara City Council Districts 1, 2, 3, 6.

The Democratic Party of Santa Barbara County (DPSBC) invites candidates to apply for its endorsement for the November 2019 election.

There will be district elections in November in the following districts.

East Side, SB District 1

Mesa, SB District 2

West Side, SB District 3

Downtown, SB District 6

Due to the California Democratic Party moving its primary to March of 2020, endorsements for that election will begin earlier than usual.

The DPSBC encourages all democratic candidates to participate in our great electoral process. This timing gives endorsed candidates credibility and enough time to seek other endorsements, meet with voters and discuss the issues before voting begins.

Several key benefits candidates receive from an endorsement:

  • The Party’s endorsement communicates to voters that endorsed candidates hold and represent Democratic values.
  • The party provides invaluable advice and expertise, especially to first-time candidates.
  • Candidates gain efficiency and effectiveness by sharing activities and resources with other endorsed candidates, such as neighborhood canvassing, literature distribution and voter registration.

We are a party of inclusion and look forward to encouraging new and experienced candidates throwing their hat into the vigorous campaign season that is just beginning.

The first step to seeking an endorsement is to contact the Endorsements and Resolutions Chair, Joe Pierre at jpierre3@comcast.net and he will walk you through the process. There will be a detailed questionnaire to fill out and an interview scheduled with the DCC which meets in Buellton the first Thursday of every month, the questionnaires are based on the Party Platform.
