Spencer was born and raised in California’s Central Valley, and moved to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB in 2015. In 2016, Spencer ran with the Party’s endorsement for the Isla Vista Community Services District Board of Directors, where he now serves as President of the Board. As a student, he sat on the Board of the UC Student Association, where he worked with students and progressive activists to combat the rising cost of tuition and housing.
As Organizing Director, he is responsible for coordinating, maintaining and supporting grassroots activities by the party, its clubs, and endorsed candidates. This includes recruiting and training volunteers to canvass, phonebank, and register voters, coordinating joint field operations for endorsed candidates and ballot measures, and managing party communications.
North County Field Organizer
Our newest member of our team is Jovany Medina. Jovany was born and raised in Santa Barbara County where he attended local public schools. He first got involved in community organizing work while attending High School in Santa Maria, and after graduating, working with CAUSE, House of Pride and Equality (HOPE), and Future Leaders of America (FLA). In these roles he helped plan Pride in Santa Maria, led phone banking and canvassing efforts, and created safe spaces for local youth. Additionally, Jovany worked as an organizer for several Democratic Party-endorsed local campaigns in the area. Jovany is looking forward to continuing to organize in North Santa Barbara County, and using his intersecting identities to serve the communities he resides in.
