I am honored to serve as your Chair for the Santa Barbara County Democratic Party. Growing up as a gay kid, I remember all too well a Democratic Party that wouldn’t fight for me. My commitment to you is that I will work tirelessly with my fellow Democrats and coalition partners to build a Democratic Party that advances justice, equity, and opportunity for us all.
As a former Director at Planned Parenthood California Central Coast, I bring 15 years of experience in Santa Barbara County grassroots organizing, coalition-building, and policy advocacy to this role, and I am proud to support Democratic candidates at every level—from school board to Congress. Our party’s mission is not just about winning elections; it’s about championing policies that reflect our shared values, including climate action, racial justice, abortion rights, and protections for working families.
I have seen firsthand how community involvement and activism can transform lives. We find ourselves in challenging times, but I think often of the people of America’s greatest civil rights struggles who fought and died so that we could live and fight.
Now more than ever is the time to fight! I invite everyone in Santa Barbara County to join us in our mission—whether by volunteering, donating, attending events, or running for office. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive community and make lasting progress on the issues that matter most.

Jovany Medina
NORTH COUNTY COMMUNITY ORGANIZER
jovany@sbdems.org
Jovany was born and raised in Santa Barbara County where he attended local public schools. He first got involved in community organizing work while attending High School in Santa Maria, and after graduating, working with CAUSE, House of Pride and Equality (HOPE), and Future Leaders of America (FLA). In these roles he helped plan Pride in Santa Maria, led phone banking and canvassing efforts, and created safe spaces for local youth. Additionally, Jovany worked as an organizer for several Democratic Party-endorsed local campaigns in the area. Jovany is looking forward to continuing to organize in North Santa Barbara County, and using his intersecting identities to serve the communities he resides in.
